Product: Biosa Composter
Country: Malaysia
Pigfarm: Thean Chor Farm
Problem: Thean Chor Farm (TCF) is a medium size pig farm located in the Valdor village in the Southern Prai district where there are approximately 48 pig farms.
Thean Chor Farm has about 1000 pigs and in 2001 the farm constructed a wastewater treatment system (see power point presentation) and the following tabel.
Effluent samples for laboratory analysis were taken before the BioReco 800 was installed. Test result show that the COD, BOD5 and NH3 were high (See appendix, 30. April 2004 and 31. May 2004). In the beginning of July 2004 Biosa Composter was added to the washing- and drinking water.

Air pump and mixer motor (4.7kW). |
BioReco 800 (1,5 kW). Lower electricity consumtion. |

Biosa Composter is added to drinking and washing water. |
|
Antibiotics. |
Biosa Composter improves animal health. No need for antibiotics. |
|
Chemicals and micro organisms added to effluent tank for waste treatment. |
Not needed as treatment starts with the animals in the pen. |
|
Foul odor and lots of flies. |
Reduction of smell and flies on the farm. |
|
Growth rate: average 600-800g of growth per 2 to 2.5 kg of feed. Less than 40% lean meat. |
Growth rate: average 1kg of growth per 2 to 2.5 kg of feed, with average 60% lean meat. |
|
All treated effluent water discharged. |
Treated water can be used for washing therefore recycling microorganisms. Cleaner environment and drainage system. |
Results: Only two weeks after the Biosa Composter treatment had started, a significant reduction of smell (ammonia) was observed as well as a reduction of flies.
Three weeks later (29. July) new tests for laboratory analysis were taken.
The results showed a clear fall in BOD.
During regular visits to the demo site, it could be observed that the wastewater treatment system was not properly managed, (a) the separator machine was not working effectively which caused too much solid waste flows in the anaerobic tanks and (b) too much sludge was found in the aerobic tank. This affected the demonstration project test results as shown in the appendix.
Once the problems had been rectified, significant test results were achieved in the following month. BOD5 readings were below 50 mg/l.
